Mechanics
Player score is accumulated dynamically with respect to the number of waves survived, which in turn grows increasingly more difficult as the game progresses. This simple logic allows Penguin Wars to deploy a scalable system that is fun, challenging, and learnable–giving players insight on what they can do to improve in their next attempt.
Considering the nature of this game mode, players are rewarded per season based on their most successful round. At the end of a season, a snapshot of the leaderboard is taken, and top performers are rewarded according to the percentile group they fall in. Being in the top 10%, 5%, 1%, and 0.1% in terms of score will net these respective players their fair share of rewards relative to their performance, and the top 10 in particular will be entitled to significant rewards for their impressive feats.
Additional attempts at this mode will come with very low-cost entry fees. However, players will also be given options to circumvent these costs by the way of watching ads or completing quests. This increases the prize pool of the season and also contributes to the burn mechanism in place.
